Welcome to the H-TOWN SOCCER LEAGUE
Frequently Asked Questions
H-TOWN
The league is designed to prioritize player development, appropriate competition, and a positive playing environment over standings-driven outcomes.
Yes. The league is sanctioned through South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA) and operates as an official US Youth Soccer (USYS)-affiliated competition.
Yes. Participating clubs and teams must be properly registered through an STYSA-affiliated local association.
Yes. Clubs interested in participating must be members of a local association affiliated with STYSA.
The league organizers can assist clubs with the process of joining an STYSA-affiliated local association.
In certain situations, league organizers may assist teams by facilitating registration through an existing affiliated membership structure, subject to all applicable STYSA rules, roster requirements, insurance requirements, and approval procedures.
Yes. League organizers are available to assist clubs with team registration procedures.
Independent teams are eligible but are still required to be affiliated with a STYSA local association and must follow all league policies.
Players participate through their member clubs. Individual players join a club first, and clubs then enter teams into the league.
Players register with their club rather than directly with the league. Clubs are responsible for forming teams, obtaining player cards, and registering those teams to play in league competitions.
No. The league operates through participating clubs and teams rather than direct individual player registration.
Yes. All players must possess a valid USYS player card issued through a STYSA-affiliated local association. Player cards verify player identity and age eligibility and provide secondary medical insurance coverage under the applicable STYSA policy.
Age groups from U7 to U16 will be offered, for both boys and girls. Age group offerings may vary depending on the number of registered teams. The league organizers may consider expanding the age group range, if there is sufficient interest.
The age groups will be set by school year, as per USSF guidelines. The birth dates for each age group will be from August 1st until July 31st the following year. Example: Players born between August 1, 2015, and July 31, 2016, would typically participate together in the U11 age group.
Yes. Existing calendar-year teams may participate. The oldest players on the roster (those born between January 1 and July 31) determine the team’s age group placement. Players born on or after August 1 may therefore be considered “playing up” relative to their school-year eligibility.
Yes. Teams may roster younger players in older age groups, subject to league and STYSA rules. Because the league emphasizes player development, play-ups are recommended only when they are beneficial to the player’s developmental needs.
This Division 3/4 league is primarily developmental and is expected to offer multiple divisions within most age groups. Higher divisions may be more competitive, while lower divisions may focus more heavily on recreation and development depending on team participation levels.
Divisions are formed based on competitive history, club input, prior results, and league discretion. Clubs can have multiple teams in the same division.
Games are played at parks designated by the league organizers. Field locations and maps will be provided before the season begins.
Season dates vary. A complete calendar with league dates will be published prior to registration opening.
Clubs can register their teams online through the league registration platform.
The fees include league administration, all game fields and referees, schedule management, onsite league management, and presentation of medals to the top 2 teams in each age group.
Late registrations may be accepted if space is available for the team.
Refund requests must be submitted in writing. Refund eligibility and processing fees may vary depending on the timing of the request. There are no refunds after the final divisions are set.
Roster limits vary by the play format. Please see the league rules.
The league utilizes a “Club Pass” system that allows eligible players within the same club to participate with another team within the club, subject to league and STYSA rules. All players must be properly registered and have a player card through the club before participating.
There is no limit to how many coaches can work with the team, but a maximum of two team officials may be on the team side of the field for any game. A club does not have to assign the same coaches to each game.
All coaches and team officials must comply with applicable STYSA risk management requirements. All coaches must pass a background check and obtain an Adult Participation Pass (APP). The league also encourages, but does not require, age-appropriate coaching education and licensing.
Coaches may be assigned to multiple teams; however, scheduling conflicts cannot always be avoided. The league recommends that a coach serves as the primary coach for no more than three teams (but can also be added as an assistant on as many teams as desired).
Yes. A primary coach must be assigned to each team as this is used to ensure that head coaches do not have coaching conflicts (unless they have too many teams).
The number of games depends on the season, due to the number of play dates available. The Fall season is expected to have 8 games per team.
Games are typically scheduled on Saturdays; however, rainouts may result in some Sunday games.
Game lengths vary by the play format. Please see the league rules.
Yes. Standings are kept for all divisions.
Teams are expected to be available on all published play dates and be aware that rainout make-up games may occur on Sundays. Preseason schedule requests are allowed, free of charge, but must be submitted before the deadline.
Schedules are typically published 1–2 weeks before the season begins.
Games may be delayed or postponed and rescheduled due to weather or unsafe field conditions. Game day updates are typically communicated via email to the team and club officials.
The league will attempt to reschedule games postponed due to weather, or field closure, when field availability permits.
After the schedule is issued there is a reschedule request process, and there is a charge for each requested game change. If the teams cannot agree upon an available rescheduling option, the original scheduled game time will remain in effect. Teams unable to appear for the originally scheduled match may be subject to forfeiture under league rules.
The league follows FIFA Laws of the Game as modified by USYS, STYSA, and league-specific competition rules.
Please contact the League Director or your team coach for assistance.
